The 2008 Winter Classic

Tomorrow's game is the Winter Classic; a nationally televised NHL game between the Buffalo Sabres and the Pittsburgh Penguins. The game is played outdoors unlike traditional NHL contests like the game was originally played. Due to the wind that is caused by playing outdoors, play will be stopped in the 3rd period to allow both teams the wind at their backs.

Be sure to tune into the winter classic to see two of the NHL's most exciting teams. The Penguins showcase the young stars of the league while Buffalo has a very successful veteran team together.

Check out the Pensblog for all kinds of coverage on this game.

Happy New Years

Hey all. I'm spending my New Years like a true loser. In the past I've been to high heights; puking, in the big city, living it up.... you name it. But not this year. I've been reduced by adulthood to sitting at home, with WWE Wrestling on my television; fucking FOX Sports radio on in the background, playing online poker. And of course this.

Tomorrow many people are looking forward to the Bowl Games. I'm looking forward to the Penguins and Sabres. I think this is the game that the Penguins show why they're America's Team and honestly I have thought for a while now (since before Fleury got hurt) that they can make a run at the Stanley Cup. With Crosby & Company, the sky is the limit.

Tomorrow I'll try and tune into the end of the Pens game, played outdoors at Rich Stadium in Buffalo, as well as the Rose Bowl at 4:30.

Biggest Attendence For a US Hockey Game

This coming tuesday January 1, 2008 will break the record for the largest attendence for a U.S. Hockey game. The Buffalo Bills football field is being turned into a large outdoor hockey rink for the first hockey game of the New Year. It will be the Buffalo Sabers against Clint's Pitt Penguins. The tickets for this game were sold out in less than half an hour. The NY Yanks were asked to turn the baseball diamond for a NY Rangers/NY Devils match up that silly George said no to. The Penguins game is rumored to have about 77,000 to watch the game. Sorry to all about the joking but gosh it had to be done!!!!

Back to Hockey talk

There was a jokester (Jake) at the controls today while I was at work. I do like that picture of my college baseball coach (less than a father figure); and all day I spent pondering why he had a spoon in his popcorn. You do not need a spoon for popcorn.

I'm going for a workout, and hopefully I'll catch the end of the Pens game. I'll be back for a wrap up. It's almost the weekend and you gotta love that shit.

Help on the way for Crosby & Co.

Ever heard of Angelo Esposito? You will soon enough. He's a poor man's Sid Crosby, a 'centre' who is 18 that the Pens selected 20th overall in the NHL Entry Draft this year.

Read about him and the other Pens prospects in the PPG.

Sidney Crosby's 1st fight

You knew this was coming for quite some time. I know Jake and I talked about this for a while; and it finally happened. Hockey Fights (best.site.ever.) says that Crosby won the fight. Ya bitches.

Snowed in with NHL 2008 on the Box

I'm snowed in; and that there's only one thing left to do: play NHL 2008 until my eyes pop out and throw in huge dips.

I just scored 5 goals in 1 game with Sidney Crosby. My Pens are unstoppable I tell you. Unstoppable.

Crosby of course, Jordan Staal, Evegny Malkin, Gary Roberts, with Gilbert Brule, Nikolai Zherdev, and Jeremy Roenick added in? It's over. Fuggudaboutit

The League's Best of the Week

Calgary outlasts Tampa Bay in a barn-burner; 9-6

When I first began to get into hockey as an adult, Jarome Iginla was the player I think I most enjoyed watching. This was before Sid the Kid burst on the scene, and the Flames were in a Stanley Cup Finals battle with these same Lightning.

Iginla was dominating, scoring at will and creating opportunities on the shot, as well as drawing in penalties and mismatches. Any hockey fan knows what Iginla can do and how dangerous of a player he really is. I think he's the best pure scorer in hockey all things considered at this time. Tonight he scored 3 goals and added an assist.

If you play fantasy hockey, and I don't; this was a game of interest. Nearly every guy who found the ice filled his stat sheet. Vinny Lecavalier had a goal and 2 assists to pad his league lead over Crosby. Dion Phaneuf had 5 assists. This was a game that simply had to go on record on this blog, because it is the first extremely high scoring competition since Light the Lamp was born.

Spezza's Big Night Lifts Sens over Pens

Yeah, so Ottawa kind of ruled shit tonight. Jason Spezza scored 2 goals and tallied 2 assists, while Dany Heatley scored 2 of his own (see picture), as the Senators dumped the Penguins 4-1.

The win was the fourth straight for the streaking Senators. The rough night added up after 3 periods for the Penguins. Sidney Crosby shot again and again (9 SOG) but failed to score, while Dany Sabourin allowed 4 goals in his 21st career start. Crosby also talled a -2 for the night and spent 2 minutes in the penalty box.

Sabourin tallied 21 saves; but he'll need to step it up in the months to come as he now becomes Pittsburgh's most important player in the absence of cornerstone goaltender Marc Andre Fleury.

Some Pens fans like over at the Sweater Ted believe that this is going to be a long and brutal couple of months. I think the Penguins can actually become a more complete team without their former #1 overall pick goalie. I think they must play better 2 way hockey and avoid costly mistakes that young teams do such as looking ahead beyond the next game. For these young Penguins, the game they are playing that night is a one game season, and they need to scratch and claw for every second opportunity, as well as every zero they can hang each period.

The Greatest Scorer of All-Time?

Hey guys check out those vids. My pick for greatest pure goal scorer of all time.

Hey guys

whats up guys. Im new here but it looks like this is a pretty great place to discuss hockey and make fun of clint.

Im curious what you guys think on who you believe will end up with the scoring title at the end of this yr? You think Vincent will hold on or Crosby or Thornton gonna take it?

Im saying Crosby takes over.

I'm Sorry, Hilary Duff

I'm sorry, Hilary Duff, for telling you at first that we'd wait until marriage. I know when we first met that was the plan; I mean it's what I really wanted I swear. Things just don't always work out the way they're planned. Sometimes I think they work out for the best, though.

I'm sorry, Hilary Duff, for ruining your parents high thread count bed sheets with your virgin blood. I didn't mean to bust your cherry for the first time with my index finger. I know you said it hurt; but I promise I wasn't pressing or touching any harder than I normally do. Honest.

I'm sorry also for repeating the feat, only worse by busting your cherry again with my hammer-head cock. I didn't mean to pump to hard and I know when you said the first time was the most important, I felt that too. I'm also really sorry for asking if I could shove a Miller Lite bottle up your ass. I know you aren't that type of girl. I thought that by asking if I could try a finger, maybe you'd ease up a bit and let your hair down. That didn't work. I'm sorry for pushing your limits.

I'm sorry for calling out 'fuck me' when things were 'in the heat' of the moment. I thought that we were, you know; on the same page. I know you were mad because you told me after I said that, that 'only porn stars 'fuck', and that 'we make love'. If that is what you want to call it, then that's what I think we should call it also. As long as you let me say I'm fucking you, like, every once in a while.

I'm sorry, Hilary Duff, about the time that I told you that I'd like to have a 3-way with you and your sister. I knew you guys were close, and, it was honestly just a big joke. Just forget about it. Besides, 3-way can mean a lot of things. I'm also sorry ahead of time if I ever happen to wonder into her bedroom when I'm drunk; and then into her bed, and then my head up her shirt. I honestly won't mean it. I'll be thinking of you the whole time--if that ever happens.

I'm sorry that instead of getting you flowers when you cried, I gave you a used up weed-scented candle. I know that isn't what most girls are into. I know when I light it, it makes me cheer up and smile. I'm sorry that you didn't get what you wanted.

I am sorry, Hilary Duff, for making you say that you feel abused. I don't mean to do it on purpose. You know what? You can just ignore me if you want. Yeah, that's right. I'll just sit here, up against your bedroom wall over here. Just pretend I'm like that lampshade. Don't even bother acknowledging me. Throw your shirts on me. Just make sure you're wearing a skimpy bra when you do it. Ok, I'm sorry. I'm not trying to be a pervert, I just really need to stick my tongue in your ass! Wait, come back here. I didn't mean that. I'm sorry. I can't help it sometimes. They don't call me 'Coms' for nothing, you know.

So how about that Mercedes I bought you baby?

Penguins dominated in Philly, 8-2

Six points? Six f--kin' points?

Joffrey Lupul's two quick goals got him on a fast track for the Philadelphia Flyers' first hat trick at home in two years. R.J. Umberger made the fans' wait much shorter for another one.
Lupul notched a hat trick and had six points and Umberger added three goals and five points to snap Philadelphia's five-game winless skid at home and lift the Flyers to an 8-2 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Tuesday night.

You know, after that dominating of the Canadian coastline put on by Crosby & company, I knew it had to end sometime. I knew this couldn't continue forever. The Pens were destined for this type of letdown to their rivals and hopefully it grounds them and realizes that they can't continue on a meteoric rise through the rest of the league--just yet.

Of course, Crosby notched two more assists on feeds to Ryan Whitney and Petr Sykora.

More then anything, very bad news for the Pens today in the way of their goaltender, Marc Andre Fleury. Fleury has a sprained ankle and will be out for 6-8 weeks. In hockey, that's a huge amount of time to miss. Hell it's a big amount of time to miss in any sport. When I heard that, I said to myself 'thats a serious sprained ankle. that is the cadillac of sprained ankles'. Two things to note, this means Dany Sauborin really has to step it up for this team, and I don't know if this team will be able to make a run to the Stanley Cup Finals or even Semifinals as I thought they would.

I've been MIA in Mexico.... a recap

Thanks for holding down the fort Jacob. I appreciate it. I'll be back soon and in full force. If you want a full recap of my Mexican adventure, go here.

In the meantime, I can't wait to get back on US soil to watch Hockey, Football, and all things American. Four days out of the USA is too long for me.

Congrats to that Faggot Tebo for winning the Heisman. Great year, and I don't care if I spelled his name wrong. He's not going to be good enough for me to worry about it. This kid is going to have a SHIT NFL career.

The New Jersey Devils are coming back, right now they have won the last 9/10 games. They have been a power house. The last game they beat the Washington Capitols 3-2. I feel that the Devils always start the season off shacky and now here come my NJ Devils back to take the Lord Stanleys Cup back to the "Dirty Jerz."

Your Wrong About Eli

If you look at Eli's stats for the past 4 games he has 8 int and 2 fumbles. I mean gosh thats a lot. What kept Eli in it today was the amazing play of the Giants Defense that allowed them to win the game with the 6-7 sacks. I also want to say that Plaxico start practicing, even if it means a little back yard throw and catch with Eli. If you dont even practice with you own team how are we supposed to win big games. Next week we have another big game against the Eagles, who are coming off 2 big losses. One to the 12-0 Pats and today to the Seatle. Both were very close games. But I just want to say ELI YOU ARE TERRIBLE.

P>S I want to throw a shout out to LSU lets beat them buckeyes!!!!!!

Eli Manning was the truth today....

Started ugly, and I mixed in a few fuck off Eli's, but the guy got it done.

What a Great Way to honor Sean Taylor

Quikly I would like to say that on the first drive for the defense of the Redskins, to play 10 men instead of the 11 the rules allow to show the loss the redskins. I also like how so many players are wearing a black 21 sticker on the back of their helments.

ELI MANNING SUCKS

I have been saying this for the past two years. On the first possession for the Giants Eli throws his first INT. As a life long Giants fan we need to get rid of Eli and find someone else. I have told so many that Eli is not that good. Hopefully this post will change that for Eli as we are not even yes four minutes in to the game. Grossman is throwing the pigskin well so far and is just picking apart this Giants Defense.

BCS Championship Matchup+Heisman+Sean Taylor

Who goes to the BCS Championship game??? I mean yes, I will say it OSU will go to this game and will jump to the #1. But who goes to play the Buckeyes in Lousiana. I say that LSU should jump infront of Georgia because LSU won the SEC title. What titie did georgia win? none!!!! I also say that LSU with 2 loses both came in the 3OT. Which shows how good this LSU football team is. Some could say Kansas should be in the picture because they only have one loss, but they lost to Mizzou and OU beat them tonight and by over 20 points. I would like to congratulate the Pitt Defense, they came out FLYING tonight. Pat White what an athlete, after dislocating this non-throwing hand coming back into this big game to try to win it. All I need to say is that I hope another BCS championship game will hapen like last year and OSU get blown out.

Heisman Troph I say goes to McFadden. What an amazing player. That is all i am going to say.

Its glad to hear that the 4 young men who killed Sean Taylor came and confessed and are now behind bars. I hope that this brings some closure to the Taylor family. I am looking foward to seeing/reading about what happens tomorow at the Redskins game.

Penguini

Penguins lose (I think)

I'm fucked up like a mushroom sandwich. Buckeyes are in national title game. WVU Loses. Fuck me. For all you that talked shit to OSU this year: eat my ass, we're in the big game.

West VA. I'm very sorry. Someday in my lifetime you will be back..............I change my mind. Your program will never have another closer gimme put. You wasted it. You blew your load before you were supposed to. The dream is over. You lost to Pitt, at home, when you should have assed them.

I just shit my pants.

Can WVU/Mizzou both lose

If both WVU and Mizzou both lose who is going to be the playing against OSU. Is it going to be Georgia or is it going to be LSU. This is crazy that if these top 2 teams that in the last week of play that they could lose and we dont know who will be in to play for the BCS ship game.

Two early missed FG for WVU

Two early missed field goals for WVU has the 'on the move' Mountaineers struggling in Morgantown.

They're moving the ball, but Pittsburgh is hanging tough as this game is seeing a scoreless tie with almost the completion of the entire first quarter.

Crosby's 2 Goals lift Pens over Stars

14 Goals now for young Sid

Three wins in a row now for the Penguins, after their 4-1 victory over the Dallas Stars tonight in Pittsburgh. Crosby did his thing. Two more goals for the kid, and it's getting pretty obvious to me that he's decided he wants to be known as a scorer this season, not just a guy who sets up the scoring. In his first two seasons, he failed to reach 40 goals, finishing in the 30's. I think it's safe to say that if he wants to do it; he'll get to 50 this season. 50 goals is the benchmark of a legit scoring threat, wouldn't you say?

What is amazing about this Crosby, is that he seemingly does his nightly show with such ease at such a young age. He is the most dominating young player in any sport, in the history of sports. I know that people will eventually want me to shut up about Crosby, but it isn't going to happen unless he gets hurt or stops doing it. I'm sorry. It's just the way it goes. More hockey talk to come. I'm too fuggin' tired to write anything else tonight.

Pens back in action tomorrow night

I did something very, very shitty today. It ruined my day. I was playing NHL 2008 on my Xbox 360 with my friend Tyler. I saved our stupid ass shitty franchise over my prized Penguins franchise. I was in the 2nd round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs against the Boston Bruins, up 3 games to 0, at home; and ready to move on to the conference finals as the #6 seed. Sid the Kid was on a roll. 53 goals in the season of which I played 95% of the games, no simulation. I am a loser. Not because I really took the time out of my life to play these games; but because I erased my season and with it goes my manhood, my will to live.

So tomorrow night; we start over.

The Penguins play host to the Dallas Stars. They'll try for their 3rd straight win. This coming after a full week off. I have to say, this is what I'm NOT a big fan of if anything in NHL hockey. Too much time off between games. Pens were on a roll. In my mind, don't they wanna get out there and just keep playing as much as possible? How could any team get in a rhythm with this kind of gappage between contests? I am falling in love with the NHL and Hockey in general, but I wish there were less days off. I've waited all week to listen to the Pens on the radio tomorrow night.

I'll also start over, a new franchise on NHL 2008. I'll pack a lip of Skoal while doing so, and I'll climb that mountain back towards the Stanley Cup (and losing another few weeks of my life).

**********

The NHL did get something right today in the model of Major League Baseball, College Football/Basketball, and the NFL. The NHL decided to make a change for 2008 scheduling, so that every team will get to see new opponents and foes.

I find this to be very good news, as I was extremely pissed that my Pens didn't come to Columbus this year, so I couldn't get a glimpse of Crosby, Malkin, Ga. Roberts, Laraque, Staal, etc. in person.

I'll be posting a lot this weekend. Don't you fuckin' move.

Sean Taylor could not outrun his troubled past

Sometimes, life imitates art. This spot, life trumps art. To build off what Jake said below; this is the loss of a superstar. This is not just another role player, this is a guy we'll be talking about 'what could have been' for decades from now.

It's all very shocking for a guy like me who lives and breathes the NFL on a daily basis. Even though I'm not a Redskin fan and I've never met Sean Taylor, I do feel saddened and in shock by all this.

I wrote a long blog post reaction to this all here on my NFL blog the Nosebleeds. I'm warning you, it's a tear jerker--especially if you play the song while reading the post--but it says exactly what I want it to.

Many years from now; I think that people will realize that like a Shakespearian tragedy character, Sean Taylor wasn't built for the long run in this world. Even if he was turning his life around, those he ran with early and maybe even later on were his death sentence. This wasn't an armed robbery. This was someone who wanted to get back at Taylor, a true badass that lived the life of someone from the streets. This is who he was--there was not pretending.

Make sure you check out my post on the Nosebleeds. It's in Taylor's memory.

Taylor Dead

With Redskins free saftey Sean Taylor now dead, the redskins will have a big whole to fill. This hard hitting and fast free saftey will be very hard to replace. This pro-bowler had 5 interceptions so far this season, and has been an emerging leader in the locker-room. This will be a big loss to the NFL community.

Pens thrash Atlanta 5-0

Dominating win for the Penguins tonight at Mellon Arena. In beating Atlanta 5-0, they won their second straight game and now sit at 10-11-2, just one game under .500 for the season. The game was the Penguins 13th home game compared to just 10 away contests.

Sidney Crosby had a goal (12) and an assist. Jordan Staal added his second goal of the season.

Marc-Andre Fleury pitched the shutout with 28 saves.

Coach Michel Therrien typically has stuck with a winning goalie to start the following game this season, so it was a bit of a surprise Fleury started Saturday. Fleury -- still the youngest regular starting goalie in the NHL -- allowed two goals on four shots Thursday before being pulled in favor of backup Dany Sabourin (who I traded away in NHL 08 because he was bitching too much).

My saturday night; WVU wins; listening to the pens; playing NHL 08

The West Virgnia Mountaineers came out and played a huge game that will make many of my relatives happy today. They beat Connecticut 66-21. I was watching it in it's entirety until ABC Sports decided things were getting out of hand and they switched it over to Georgia and Georgia Tech. I'm happy for WVU and while I can feel it spelling the end of my Buckeye's Nat'l title hopes, I wouldn't mind seeing WVU in the title game, as I predicted at season's beginning for them to win it all.

I'm spending this saturday night listening on NHL.com radio to the Penguins who play host to those nasty Thrashers from Atlanta. Nothing good ever came out of Atlanta; I swear. There's a shitload of crime and the people drive like assholes. Hopefully the Penguins get the 'W' and Sid the Kid's point streak continues. That's what I'm here for. That's worth the price of admission for me.

I'll be eating dinner and playing some NHL 08 tonight on the Xbox, where I've figured out how to fuck people up online.

Full wrap to come after the Pens game.

NHL Goals of the Week

Brought to you by NHL Video over at YOUtube.

Tie Domi heart Ulf Samuelson

Down goes LSU!

What a ballgame. Best sports saturday friday of the year thus far! Maybe Ohio State was chewing on those roses for nothing afterall.

21 games in and Caps fire Head Coach

Only 21 games in and the Washington Capitols have already fired there head coach. Yes, they do have the worst record in the NHL right now, but that does not mean that they can not bounce back and move up in the rankings.

A-Rod and the Yanks

What are the Yanks thinking? A-Rod is a good third basemen but he is not worth the money. As a Yanks fan and a New Yorker I feel that there are so many better 3rd basemen out there. Look at possible free-agent Mike Lowell. I feel that he would be a much better addition to the Yanks line up. I feel that we do need to re-sign Posada and Rivera. Rivera needs to coach Joba, on becoming the best releif pitcher the game will see. Posada, even though he is having problems with injuries and is getting up there in age, he adds a positive leadership role as well as good numbers to the Bronx Bombers. Brian Cashman needs to go out there and bring in some new pitchers especially if Andy decideds to retire. Great left hand pitcher Johan Santana would be an increbible addition to the line-up. The Twins are in need of a Centerfielder trading Melky and some other prospects would be great. Well we will have to wait until monday to see if the Yanks did offically sign A-Rod.

Thankful for a big win

It just might have been the type of win that is a season changer for the Pittsburgh Penguins. They had their backs up against it this Thanksgiving night; playing the 16-4 Ottawa Senators on the road. Down the entire game, the Penguins found themselves battling back from 2-0 and 5-3 deficits.

Instead, backup goalie Dany Sabourin came off the bench and stopped Ottawa's potent scorers in a shootout.

Sabourin denied four shooters in a row and Jarkko Ruutu scored on Pittsburgh's fifth shootout attempt to give the Penguins a 6-5 victory over the Senators.

Sidney Crosby tallied an assist and a +2 while being on the ice. This just very well might be the game that you can look back to on the Penguin's calendar and see that they turned everything around on this Thanksgiving 2007 night.

[Box Score]

Happy Thanksgiving

It's a Penguins Thanksgiving, as they've got to take on the tough 16-4 Ottawa Senators.

Tough 2-1 loss last night to the New Jersey Devils, in which the only goal came from Malkin. I listened to a short amount of the game on NHL.com. I also stayed up wayyyyy too late playing NHL 08 on the Xbox.

I gotta go. They're bugging me to play euchre. GO PENGUINS

Penguins new stadium design

Here is what the Penguins new fieldhouse will look like, according to the Pittsburgh Post Gazette.

By the way, welcome to the blog Jake.

SID THE KID NEEDS TO BE A FOWARD NOT A GOALIE

What are the penguins thinking???putting there top player Crosby in between the pipes for a practice??? Do they want to lose the rest of the season???Please if it were not for this young superstar(yes i said superstar, he is over rated) where would the Pegguins be...they would be in last place not have made a run to the playoffs last year and Mario well he would not have a roommate....haha.....A little info for the penguins dont let your star player play a position he has never played, for a practice just cause he wants to...it does not help the team out....

Sid the Kid opens the blog with a win

Figures that I might as well open this blog with a Hockey post.

I grew up playing baseball, football, and basketball. I always wanted to be a hockey player but I couldn't skate for shit. Otherwise I had all the tools.

This is a blog dedicated to covering some NHL Hockey, and sports as a whole. It's a sports bar and everything is on the tubes. All bloggers are welcome to write for this site and offer their viewpoints, opinions, thoughts, and homerisms.

My favorite hockey team is the Penguins. Mainly because of Sid the Kid, but also because when I was young and growing up I dominated the opposition in Sega Genesis NHL 94. I was the comeback kid. With Super Mario, no lead was too great to overtake.

Here, I hope that some of the same, laid back, 64-bit nostalgia is felt through every post. Let the games begin.
